When first starting out or even if you are a webcam model guru, with years of experience, everyone can learn from this and avoid making these critical mistakes. At Strip Entertainment, we strive to coach/train/mentor our models, so they can be the best in the business. Let's learn common mistakes that webcam models make, so that you as a performer don't feel any adverse affects caused by them.
Lack of Training: Assuming you don't need any training or coaching. Becoming a top paid webcam model isn't just about good looks and great equipment. (You can learn about Webcam Model Tools by visiting here.) Looks aside, if you don't know to work the chat platform you are on, you will miss utilizing all of the tools made available to you to make the most money. There is more to webcam modeling than making your bed, throwing on a sexy outfit and makeup and logging in for your shift.
Ignoring Platform Rules: Every platform has them. Basically, they outline what you can and cannot do when performing. Learn them. Ignoring them and hoping you don't get caught doing things you shouldn't be doing is a sure way to risk getting banned from any platform you're on. No rebels. Rules were not made to be broken.
Setting Unrealistic Expectations: Don't set yourself up for a let down. You don't want to disappoint yourself by setting income target goals that are unrealistic, especially when you are first starting out. It takes time to perfect your craft and establish yourself as a new model on any platform.
Inconsistent Scheduling: You have to work to make money. It's not a new concept for any job/career. Having an inconsistent schedule can affect your income tremendously. The beauty of this business is that with our models, you are in charge of your schedule. That being said, stick to the schedule you make. We tell our models, to inform us of the weekly schedule they have made for themselves and it should go without saying, that being consistent with it, is key. Treat your webcam modeling job like any other job. Log in on time and be prepared and work your shift. Having a consistent schedule posted on a platform, also informs your following fans of when you are going to be streaming. This equals, money. Part time weekly streaming hours are 25 hours a week. Full time weekly steaming hours are 32+ hours. The more you work, the more you have the potential of earning. Simple formula.
Poor Lighting/Set Up: Not setting yourself up from the very beginning with great lighting and a de-cluttered, quiet, neat space to perform from is crucial to your success. It really can make or break you as a webcam model. Quality equipment, lighting and set up can also rank you higher on a platform and you want as much traffic in your live streams as possible. Don't let this be the reason other models are taking your audience. We go over in more detail, top tools for webcam models in our blog here.
Very little Audience Engagement: Failing to engage with your audience is a major mistake. If you are playing on your phone and look like you aren't excited to be live streaming, your audience will move on to another models stream. Members visit your streams to chat and to be entertained. Put on some low volume music in the background to fill in silence, say hello (Screen names of your audience members) Remember, any audience member can be a paid member. If you look bored and aren't showcasing a fun and flirty personality, no member is going to assume that a show with you will be worth it. In addition, guest who aren't registered, may think twice about signing up. Don't lose your audience.
Not looking your best: You wouldn't show up to a traditional job with uncombed hair, no make up and wearing pajamas and furry slippers. Be ready when you're about to stream. Take some time to prepare by making sure you look amazing. Hair done, make up on, cute lingerie or role play costume. Before logging on for your shift, ask yourself if you would pay to chat with you. Making sure you look your best will also keep and welcome new traffic. There is more money to be made in webcam modeling than a traditional job but webcam modeling is competitive, so be ready to compete.
Doing your taxes: The taxes you are to file depend on where you are located. (State/Federal or Both.) Consult with a tax preparer/accountant on how you should go about filing. Most jobs in the industry of webcam modeling are 1099, which means taxes are not withheld. You may want to set aside 25-30% of your paychecks into a separate savings account, that you do not touch and allocate these funds for what you may owe when it comes time to file your taxes. Don't make the mistake of spending everything you make to avoid surprises. Ignoring possible State and Federal taxes could come with consequences that will follow you around, so simply prepare yourself.
No self promotion: Tools such as social media are a great way to self promote and not enough models do this. Just be sure when doing any kind of self promotion, that you are marketing yourself as your model persona. Same thing applies when live streaming, never give out your personal information such as real name and when asked where you are from, it's OK to give out the state but don't give out anything more.
Self Care: Webcam modeling can at times be a very taxing job both physically and mentally, so it's important to incorporate plenty of self care time. If you enjoy yoga, painting, working out, going out to brunch with the girls or getting a massage, do more of those things. Avoid burn out and set aside self care time to do the things that you enjoy and that relax, rejuvenate and restore you. When planning out your weekly streaming schedule, be sure it is a realistic one and one that you can keep. Webcam modeling at times can be challenging but very rewarding for models that take their jobs seriously. Just never forget to prioritize your mental and physical health along the way.
